The “Down To Earth’ book bundle is perfect for children aged 3-8. The books are very accessible for children of pre school age but there is so much scope for older children as well.
Here We Are: Notes for Living on Planet Earth by Oliver Jeffers is a beautiful, and thought provoking book out our planet. It explores the land, sky, people and time, offering some brilliant advice about how to live on Earth.
What I love about this book is that it helps children to explore the world by accepting that it can be a confusing and bewildering place at times. However, it leaves children with a very simple message…You’ve just got to be kind!
Greta and the Giants by Zoe Tucker and Zoe Persico is an inspiring picture book which retells the story of Greta Thunberg in a way that is accessible to little ones. Greta is a little girl from Sweden who lives in a beautiful forest threatened by Giants. When the Giants first came to the forest, they chopped down trees to make houses. Then they chopped down more trees and made even bigger homes. The houses grew into towns and the towns grew into cities, until now there is hardly any forest left. Greta knows she has to help the animals who live in the forest and she comes up with an amazing idea!
The book itself has been printed sustainably in the UK on 100% recycled paper, which I think is fantastic. Plus, by buying a copy of this book, you are making a donation of 3% of the cover price to Greenpeace UK. There is also a helpful section at the back of the book which explains that, in reality, the fight against the ‘giants’ isn’t over and it gives children some ideas about how they can help Greta in her fight.
Little Lost Fox by Caroline Rabei is a heartfelt story about family, exploration and celebrating the great outdoors. When a little girl loses her fox toy, she discovers it’s been taken by a real-life fox cub. However, she soon realises the real fox cub is lost too and she sets off on a mission to help it find its way home, exploring the countryside near her home.
I believe that outdoor play is fundamental to children’s wellbeing and the beautiful illustrations in this book will encourage children to play outdoors and to engage with the natural world around them.
